Jakob Steinhardt (1887-1986) was one of the most influential print artists in Israeli art and a distinguished disciple of Hermann Struck. German Expressionism left a deep imprint on his work. In 1933 Steinhardt immigrated to Palestine and founded the "Studio" in Jerusalem. He later became the director of the Graphics Department at "New Bezalel", and headed the academy in 1953-1957. Upon coming to Israel he focused on woodcuts as a primary means for expression. The exhibition aims to create a dialogue between Steinhardt and Struck, who in different ways conveyed their respective worldviews of the the art of print.Jacob SteinhardtJonah and the Gourd, illustration to "Jonah" (portfolio)Etching' drypoint and soft ground etching, 1923Collection of the Israel Museum, JerusalemHermann StruckTheodor Herzl (detail)Etching and soft-ground etching, 1903Collection of the Haifa MuseumsHermann StruckHavdalahEtching and aquatintearly 20th centuryCollection of the Haifa Museums
